Tropically warm and humid with coastal day temperatures averaging 28oC. April to November tends to be drier, and November to April wetter. The water temperature is 26-29oC. Solomon Islands is at 9'S latitude. Bring plenty of sun block.
Light and casual. Pack a light sweater for the cooler evenings.
Malaria can be a problem in the Solomon Islands. It is recommended that you consult your doctor at least two weeks prior to departure about an appropriate brand of anti-malarial medication. The best way to avoid Malaria is to not get bitten. This means using repellant all day, especially during dusk hours. We recommend long sleeves and trousers for those who are particularly tasty to the little pests! It is also important to drink plenty of water while you are here, especially when touring the battlefields. Tap water must be boiled before drinking. We recommend you stock up on bottled water (bottled water is readily available in the Solomon Islands).
It is worth noting that many expatriates living here for up to 20 years have never taken a prophylactic apart from Solbrew (a beer) and have never had malaria.
You will be traveling well off the beaten track. Travel insurance is highly recommended.
